MOSCOW, RUSSIA – An Iraero Superjet 100 passenger aircraft made an emergency landing on a runway under construction at Moscow Domodedovo Airport on Thursday, according to TASS. The aircraft landed safely on the runway under construction and nobody was injured, the airport’s press service said.
A spokesperson said the Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 of the Irkutsk-based Russian airline Iraero made an emergency landing on the runway under construction at Domodedovo Airport.
“The aircraft of Iraero airline – en route from Sabetta to Moscow – landed on a non-operating runway located near the Domodedovo airdrome. The landing was normal. Nobody was injured as a result of the incident,” the press service said.
“We regret to say that we do not know all circumstances of the incident but can definitely say that neither people were injured nor the aircraft was damaged,” the press service added.
According to TASS, the Federal Air Transport Agency Rosaviatsiya will start an investigation why the aircraft landed on the non-operating runway. Rosaviatsiya – established in 2004 by Russian President Vladimir Putin – is the equivalent of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from the U.S.
