AMSTERDAM – One of the four engines of a Cargolux Italia B747 to Amsterdam was shut down during its flight to Amsterdam on Sunday. The B747 continued and landed safely at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands.
Cargolux Italia Boeing 747-400 freighter – registration LX-TCV – performing Flight CV-7156 from Nairobi to Amsterdam, was descending through FL310 towards Amsterdam when the crew reported failure of the number one engine (CF6, outboard left hand) and shut the engine down.
The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Amsterdam Airport’s runway 18R – also known as the Polderbaan – about 25 minutes later. According to Emergency services at Schiphol everything looked normal.
The cargo aircraft continued the flight to Luxembourg after remaining on the ground for about 4.5 hours.
It remains unclear what caused the failure of the B747 engine.
