British Airways has cancelled all flights to Italy, which has been locked down due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Daily Mirror reports. The airline joins Norwegian and Wizz Air in suspending all flights to Italy, while easyJet and other carriers are still flying to Italy.

British Airways – which operates 60 routes between the UK and Italy – has cancelled all flights to and from the country in southern Europe. Italy was locked down since yesterday, in a desperate attempt to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Norwegian and Wizz Air already cancelled all flights to and from Italy, where the lockdown as affected some 60 million people.

EasyJet has cancelled some flights, but was still operating flights to destinations such as Bologna, Milan and Venice.

According to Ryanair, the airline is telling their customers whose flights are running that “the no cancellation and no refund policy remains”.

“In light of the Italian Government’s announcement and the UK Government’s official travel advice, we have contacted all customers who are due to travel today,” a British Airways spokeswoman said.

“We have updated our policy to give customers more options and flexibility – any travelers due to fly to or from Italy between now and April 4 can re-book to a later date up until the end of May, move their destination to Geneva or Zurich or receive a full refund.”

“We recommend that any travellers continue to check their booking on ba.com for the latest information and ensure their contact details are up-to-date in the Manage My Booking section of the website,” she added.

British Airways received many complaints from passengers being stranded in Italy, after flights were grounded.
