SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Sunday March 29, 2020 was a very sad day for aviation, as KLM and Qantas has retired their Boeing 747s, closing off an almost 50-year chapter of their incredible history as the oldest national carriers in the world – KLM celebrated its 100th anniversary in October last year and Qantas will have its 100th anniversary in November of this year. It’s likely that this was the last Qantas 747 flight, although no official announcement has been made by Qantas. Sources have been told though that the 5 remaining 747s in the Qantas fleet will not return after the Corona pandemic. Flight QF28 from Santiago to Sydney departed from Santiago Airport on March 28 at 2:13 PM local time and landed safely at Sydney Airport on March 29 at 5:30 PM local time. Flight QF28 was operated by a Qantas 747-400 with registration VH-OEE. Before its final landing at Sydney Airport, the Qantas Queen of the Skies said goodbye to Sydney and to Australia by performing a beautiful low flyby over Sydney Harbor at an altitude of 2,100 ft, as you can watch in this awesome and emotional video of the last Qantas 747 landing ever:
