TWO EUROFIGHTER JETS HAVE COLLIDED IN MID-AIR AND CRASHED IN GERMANY

MALCHOW, GERMANY – Two Eurofighter aircraft of the German Air Force collided in the northeast of the country above the town of Malchow this afternoon. The Eurofighter aircraft crashed, but the 2 pilots were able to use the ejection seats of the aircraft.

The German Air Force has confirmed the crash of its 2 Eurofighter Typhoons. The fighter jets crashed near the Laage military base in the eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, about 120 kilometers northwest of Berlin.

Wreckage of the aircraft ended up in inhabited areas and also in a forest, where they caused forest fires.

“Together with a third Eurofighter they were flying an air combat mission. The pilot of the third Eurofighter observed the collision and reported that two parachutes descended to the ground,” the Luftwaffe (German Air Force) tweeted.

A Police spokesman said one of the pilots was found alive in a forest. The search is continuing for the other pilot.

The crash happened shortly before 2:00 PM Local Time. 

UPDATE 6:00 PM: The Luftwaffe has confirmed that one pilot unfortunately did not survive the crash.
