Boeing 777 Philippine Airlines engine catches fire

PHILIPPINE AIRLINES B777 ENGINE CATCHES FIRE JUST AFTER TAKE OFF AT LAX

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – A Boeing 777-300ER from Philippine Airlines – en route from Los Angeles to Manila in the Philippines – returned to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) shortly after take off, when smoke and flames were suddenly coming out from the right engine of the aircraft. The pilot decided to return to LAX immediately to perform an emergency landing. The landing was performed without any problems, the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) reports.

Philippine Airlines Flight 113 departed from LAX just after 11:00 AM (local time) and landed safely at the airport around noon. Passengers saw flames coming out of the engine and there were unusual vibrations. The passengers however remained relatively calm, although it was quite a frightening situation for people onboard. The pilots did a great job though, by turning the aircraft immediately to fly back to LAX.

After the successful emergency landing, everyone was able to leave the aircraft safely. It’s unclear what could have caused the engine to catch fire.
