JAKARTA – Indonesia’s national airline Garuda Indonesia cancelled its order for 49 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, a deal worth almost 5 billion dollar, the company announced on Friday.

“We have sent a letter to Boeing requesting the order to be cancelled,” said a Garuda spokesperson. He also said that passengers in Indonesia have lost faith in the Boeing aircraft.

Garuda ordered a total of 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. One aircraft has already been delivered on December 20, 2017. The airline has paid Boeing $26 million of the $4.9 billion. Garuda Indonesia would like to have another model to replace the 737 MAX aircraft, which was forced to be grounded, due to the 2 recent air crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia.
