FUKUOKA, JAPAN – An All Nippon Airways (ANA) Boeing 767-300 with 278 passengers en crew members on board had to return to Fukuoka Airport in southwestern Japan on Thursday, shortly after take off due to an engine fire, The Mainichi reports. The aircraft landed safely and nobody was injured.

ANA Flight 246 to Tokyo Haneda Airport, took off from Fukuoka Airport at 9:51 A.M. (Local Time), about 10 minutes behind schedule. Shortly after take off the captain contacted the tower to report an engine problem and requested to return to Fukuoka Airport for an emergency landing, the airline said.

The captain told ATC that an indicator showed that the right engine’s temperature was rising too fast. Subsequently the engine was shut down immediately and the aircraft landed safely at Fukuoka Airport around 10:15 A.M.

“I heard an impact noise shortly after taking off, and the lighting in the cabin temporarily went out. An announcement from the flight deck said that an engine had caught fire and that it was being dealt with and that it wouldn’t pose any danger to the flight,” a female passenger on the flight said.
